The seamless big bang go-live involved the migration to SAP S/4 Hana of 28 production units in 34 countries and 78 sales companies worldwide. This demanding greenfield project is the largest S/4 Hana transformation to date in the worldwide manufacturing industry. Viessmann also implemented innovations such as Integrated Business Planning (IBP) and MRP Live (Material Resource Planning).
cbs transitioned a total of 190 company codes and 30 billion data records. More than 6,000 users were affected by the worldwide changeover, which was handled using the near-zero downtime method. The two companies completed the implementation in just 18 months.
“All processes in S/4 at Viessmann are running smoothly. All areas of operations – production, shipping, and warehousing – continue to run at full capacity with no disruptions. Now Viessmann has integrated, digital business processes company-wide. Our future-proof platform 2025 is up and running”, says Harald Doernbach, Managing Director at Viessmann IT Service.
Viessmann and cbs project groundbreaking
The project partners see the undertaking as a groundbreaking success. “The Viessmann project serves as a lighthouse for S/4 transformations in the global SAP market. It sets new standards in terms of speed, benefits, and costs. Future implementation projects will therefore use it as a yardstick”, says Rainer Wittwen, member of the cbs Management Board.
cbs‘ s.m.a.r.t migration approach defined a tailor-made roadmap that transitioned Viessmann to S/4 Hana at high speed. Business re-engineering activities focused on value-adding processes. The consultants took a selective approach, concentrating on the structures, processes, standards and data where optimization creates added value for Viessmann.
As a result, the heating technology group now benefits from innovations such as new digital planning procedures and dramatically accelerated material requirements planning with time savings of 90 percent. Furthermore, the new system has been thoroughly cleansed of obsolete, in-house developments and unneeded data.
“This gives us a strong foundation for further process digitization within the Viessmann Group”, explains Viessmann‘s CIO Doernbach.
At the core of the s.m.a.r.t. approach is cbs ET Enterprise Transformer for SAP S/4 Hana, the world’s first standard software for S/4 transformation. It helped Viessmann to migrate from the old SAP ECC system to the new platform with near-zero downtime – consequently ensuring a seamless go-live.
