The SAP executive board does not have to choose between only two paths, but is spoiled for choice between many open doors. SAP’s dilemma: There are numerous options to escape its current precarious situation, but instead of choosing one, SAP has been trying to go through all the doors at once. SAP CEO Christian Klein cannot make up his mind and wants to choose every path at the same time. Obviously, this approach cannot succeed. The result of his indecision is the image of a diffuse and unstable SAP.
The ERP company has lost its way. Customers and partners are left confused. SAP has many viable options, but Christian Klein has to decide: Should SAP become a hyperscaler, a provider of a composable ERP, a database provider, a classic software provider, a B2B service provider, a consulting company, or something else entirely? As long as Klein doesn’t decide and keeps SAP from finding its distinctive path again, the distrust of customers will remain high and the share price low.
