The deeper SAP customers delve into the structures of the Business Technology Platform, the more they realize that they are dealing with good ol’ HEC, Hana Enterprise Cloud.
Labeling scam?
Many SAP customers can barely tell the difference between BTP and HEC. Maybe BTP really can do more than HEC from an SAP Basis perspective. From a CCoE leader’s perspective, the difference is marginal – but not so for the CFO and CIO! SAP’s Business Technology Platform’s low fees only take effect after several months of operation.
There is a kind of duty to cooperate in the SAP cloud. Before, outsourcing or hosting companies took care of many of the same services that customers now have to do on their own in SAP’s cloud. If customers cannot fulfill their duty to cooperate, it becomes expensive. Of course, SAP offers its support, but that usually has to be paid for separately.
However, a full cost calculation is difficult to obtain because of the lack of experience with SAP’s cloud. BTP thus remains an expensive one-way street, because there is no cloud exit strategy back to the less expensive on-prem system.
