The German-speaking SAP user group (DSAG e.V.) and Americas’ SAP Users’ Group (ASUG) have published a survey about the acceptance and prevalence of S/4 Hana in the SAP community. The results were overwhelmingly positive, with 69 percent of DSAG members and 57 percent of ASUG members saying they are considering using S/4 Hana in the future. Why did SAP extend maintenance for ERP/ECC 6.0 and Business Suite 7 until 2027/2030, then, if every community member is planning on migrating or already in the process of doing so?
Whistling in the dark?
According to the joint survey of DSAG and ASUG, the majority of DSAG members (70 percent) and ASUG members (55 percent) are already customizing S/4 Hana. But in the same press release, the user groups acknowledge that “the most commonly used solution among members of both SAP user groups is still SAP ECC for 84 percent of DSAG respondents and 78 percent of ASUG respondents”.
That sounds amazing – the actual number of live S/4 Hana systems less so: Only 12 percent (DSAG) and 16 percent (ASUG) of respondents are live. Which is the reason why SAP needed to extend maintenance of Business Suite 7 and ERP/ECC 6.0 in the first place. Maybe the ERP company will have to push the deadline back a second time, judging by how ‘enthused’ customers are about its new software generation.
