Grown Add-Ons And Abap Developments

When migrating to S/4 Hana, one of the biggest challenges for companies is the question of how to deal with the Abap developments and add-ons that have grown ever more numerous over the last couple of years.

Since SAP TechEd Las Vegas in October 2018, there have been some changes regarding Abap, add-ons and S/4. With the introduction of S/4 Hana, a lot of new functionalities were built into the standard, previously only accessible through the use of add-ons. Consequently, SAP customers can now do without one or two self-made components.

Up until now, the more difficult question was how to deal with Abap developments that do not have a worthy successor in S/4. At TechEd Las Vegas 2018, an announcement was made: SAP Cloud Platform Abap Environment is now available to everyone. This means that Abap programmers have access to several interfaces with which they can develop powerful add-ons and new applications using the public cloud.

Therefore, programmers can now utilize existing knowledge about Abap and agile methods like DevOps to develop and enhance business applications in the cloud. Moreover, SAP announced the availability of Services SAP Cloud Platform Funtions, Beta for 2019. This would make the development of microservices possible while the platform takes care of implementation, operation and scale.

Challenges

Not every illness has a remedy, but for many individual tasks in the SAP environment, add-ons have been developed by highly specialized partners to enhance the standard. As diverse as the problems are only their solutions.

One example is the add-on from MSG Treorbis. It was created for SAP customers to take personnel master data from non-SAP HR cloud solutions and use it successfully with SAP Payroll.

Another challenge is the digitalization of document processes. Paper-based processes are replaced by digital and automated workflows. The next step would be the transfer to the cloud. WMD’s concept is opting for a hybrid approach with which workflow and exchange of documents can happen in the cloud.

Consult-SK developed a remedy for cash audits. With their add-on, it is possible to comply with the requirements for electronic data from cash transactions.

A different add-on from Centric IT Solutions guarantees the rule-consistent and efficient processing of payroll accounting.

The best tools are no good if the implementation wastes time and money. Snap promises a quick and effective implementation with their best practice software.

Replace Web Dynpro applications with Fiori apps – is that even possible? “Of course”, says Patrick Peper, Sales Manager at Neptune Software. With the Digital Experience (DX) platform, the company introduced a low code and Abap-based development platform. It should help SAP customers in modernizing and optimizing business processes and user interfaces.

Not every illness has a remedy, but SAP partners are working hard to find a solution to every problem.
