Apple As A Role Model For SAP

You will have a hard time finding anyone arguing against Apple’s exceptional product design, its innovation, or its revolutionary visions. And yet, many smartphone, computer and laptop users decide against Apple, simply because they do not want to be trapped inside a ‘golden cage’. Apple users may live in IT paradise but escaping it can prove impossible.

SAP customers are facing a similar dilemma. R/3, Suite 7, and S/4 Hana are exceptional systems – as long as you’re following SAP’s rules. If you try to escape the standard, you’ll pay high fees, primarily through SAP’s licensing practice Digital Access.

Apple has recently announced that it has developed an in-house chip for future desktop and notebook generations, which means it no longer needs Intel. The walls of Apple’s golden cage are seemingly closing in around customers, but Apple stays fair: Despite the new, modern chip, product prices will remain roughly the same or even decrease while performance will significantly improve.

Could Apple serve as a role model for SAP before it is too late and customers will escape their Suite 7 and AnyDB prison to switch to other ERP systems? SAP could promise increased performance and agility in S/4 Hana as well as reduced licensing and support fees – wouldn’t that be nice?
