The SolMan 7.2 Upgrade: Interface, Deadline and More

For the first time, with the new version 7.2, SAP has given Solution Manager a user interface that is easier to operate and is intuitive. e3zine.com has the the overview.

The new interface for Solution Manager (SolMan) 7.2 provides a better overview on developments, makes usage easier, and generates extra productivity with regard to the central life-cycle management-hub for SAP systems. On top of this, the new version of SAP is available free of charge.

Disadvantages: at present, many SAP application users simply do not have the resources free to make the upgrade to SolMan 7.2. The practical experience with the new version is also absent.

The good news: Larsen & Toubro Infotech offers an upgrade service that provides the migration from Solution Manager 7.1 to 7.2, as a dedicated project at a fixed price.

The IT service provider emphasises that this is a clearly-demarcated project, focussed on the upgrade and without a contractual commitment beyond this project. Larsen & Toubro Infotech ranks among that hand-picked circle of firms worldwide that have already been able to gain first-hand experience with SolMan 7.2.

This is related to the fact that globally Larsen & Toubro is among SAP’s top 10 partners and also its top 10 customers. Since May 2016, the IT service provider has had no less than 20 experts specialised in this, carrying out projects upgrading to Solution Manager 7.2.; two projects are already successfully completed.

Facing the Deadline

The mainstream maintenance of SolMan 7.1 is discontinued at the end of 2017. In introducing the new version, it is a crucial task to carefully implement the content activation, with regard to the documentation used prior to that moment.

Also, in the SAP NetWeaver the Abap stack and the Java stack must be separated from one another. Moreover, a direct migration from SolMan 7.0 to 7.2 is not possible; if so required, Larsen & Toubro Infotech takes on the assignment of making the two-stage upgrade.

Who SolMan 7.2 is for

SolMan 7.2’s significance and its use in the SAP application-user companies will grow because the new possibilities for modelling and administering business processes are particularly useful with regard to the introduction of S/4 Hana.

So SolMan 7.2 is recommended by SAP for supporting an S/4 migration. Yet even without an S/4 project in the immediate future, SolMan 7.2 can be expected to be given high priority among the SAP application users.

Accordingly, the user interface was fundamentally modernised, with SAP UI5; it is thereby also optimised for mobile devices for the first time. Dashboards provide a user-friendly overview, offering the users their (rights-dependent) applications and also their views into processes.

We have an interview with Larsen&Toubro Infotech’s Bernd Martin coming on February, 8th 2017, detailing the specifics of their update projects.
