The opening keynote speech at the 2016 annual conference of the German-speaking SAP User Group (DSAG) focuses on the event’s central theme: “Business transformation through digitalization.”
DSAG Chairman Marco Lenck highlighted the challenges of digital transformation and its impact on business processes, company departments, and market models. About 4,500 people have once again made their way to the Nuremberg Convention Center for the event.
Business processes are changing. Industries are merging and forming “business ecosystems”. And different types of business models are coming together and providing a 360-degree view of markets. The resulting data is increasingly serving as the basis for new business models. And technology is providing the foundations for managing this transformation.
What kind of role will SAP play in this environment? What does it mean for its role as a provider of integrated business processes, business networks, and hybrid business platforms? How important are other players in the software market? DSAG is asking all these questions on behalf of its members.
Enabling digitalization with existing solutions
One thing is clear: new digital processes require reliable underlying systems which can be easily expanded, modified or added to. So do SAP’s solutions meet this demand? With Business Suite, customers already have a mature platform which has furnished SAP users with comprehensive expertise for years.
Here DSAG expects ongoing development of the existing solutions, even in light of new products like S/4 Hana. This includes ensuring the quality of the systems being provided. “We need better processes – in the form of error-free solutions – to support companies with their digitalization strategies,” explained DSAG Chairman Marco Lenck. “Going forward, software solutions have to be easy to use – otherwise companies will be held up in pursuing their strategies.”
In this context, it is important for SAP customers to be able to drive forward digitalization with a number of different solutions – and at a pace that is not dictated by “end of support” deadlines. Lenck continues: “For both new SAP technologies and existing products, we expect more functionality and better integration between solutions. There is also a lack of detailed roadmaps to help companies plan ahead for the next few years.”
Business transformation is a key issue for companies today, and changing business processes will continue to pose a huge challenge in the future. Decision-makers need the right information to minimize risks along the way. “We don’t have to change our processes.
But we have the chance to shape new processes for our companies” – these were the motivating words of DSAG Chairman Marco Lenck. He wants SAP to fulfil its role and provide appropriate solutions. Looking ahead, Lenck said: “We hope to work together with SAP to develop quality solutions and guidance for digitalization projects, and provide information that helps eliminate as many risks as possible.”
